The Maths Gym is excited to be back on campus for face-to-face support! There are still some online appointments available if you can’t make it on campus.

Please check the relevant link for your campus below. As always virtual appointments are available from any campus 🙂

Drop-in Sessions

Drop-in sessions are open, supported study sessions where you can ‘drop-in’ with your questions. There is no need to book, simply turn up and a tutor will be on hand to help you. There is no limit to the number of sessions you can attend or how long you stay! These are for ANY student at HWU with maths/stats based questions (you don’t have to be a mathematician).

See the campus information below for current times and how to attend.

Appointments

Appointments are perfect for individuals or small groups (2-3 students) who require a bit more time with a tutor or who have a more in depth question. These are available to ANY HWU student and are currently available, virtually, via Microsoft Teams or in person on the Edinburgh campus.

To book an appointment, please visit our booking page to find an available slot.

If you can’t find a suitable appointment on the booking system give our drop-in sessions a try – they do not require booking.

If there are any issues with booking then please get in touch mathsgym@hw.ac.uk.

Workshops

The Maths Gym workshops are an opportunity to have guided study sessions with your peers and a Maths Gym tutor. There will be ample worked and practice examples to demonstrate the techniques discussed.

These are designed as revision sessions and are not intended to introduce you to new topics; they can be very useful to refresh your knowledge on areas of maths and stats which you need to apply to your current courses.

Recordings of previous workshops cover a variety of topics and are available on our Canvas page.

Canvas

We have a Maths Gym vision page, which is primarily a participation space. The Collaborate Ultra facility within our course page is used for virtual Workshops and Drop-in sessions.

To access our Canvas page you must self-enroll on the Maths Gym ‘course’ page, titled: V11MA Maths Gym. It can be accessed here – just click on the ‘Enroll’ button.

This short video demonstrates how to self-enroll:

Discussion Board

We have a discussion board on Canvas to answer quick queries and for you to discuss maths and stats problems with your colleagues – it will be checked by staff frequently during the work week but if you know the answer to a query, get involved and help each other out 🙂
